Vent It

Terms of Service

Effective date: August 30, 2026 · Version 2026-08-30

Welcome to Vent It. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Vent It website and application (the “Service”), operated as Vent It (“Vent It,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility and Accounts

You must be at least 16 years old to use Vent It. By using the Service you represent that you meet this requirement.

An account is required to access any part of the Service, including reading posts. You may sign up using Google Sign-In or any other method we offer. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it up to date. Each person may maintain only one account.

2. The Service

Vent It provides two connected spaces: (a) the “Vent” feed, where users may post confessions, opinions, and personal experiences, including anonymously; and (b) “Culture & Heritage,” an archive of Rwandan stories, family lineage, memoirs, and traditions contributed by the community and, where indicated, reviewed by stewards. We may add, change, or remove features at any time.

3. Anonymous Posting

Where the Service allows you to post anonymously, your display identity is hidden from other users. It is not hidden from Vent It: we retain an internal record linking anonymous content to your account so that we can enforce these Terms, respond to reports of abuse, and comply with legal obligations. We do not publicly reveal the identity behind anonymous content except where required by law, to protect the rights or safety of others, or as described in our Privacy Policy.

4. Your Content

You retain ownership of the content you post (“User Content”). By posting User Content, you grant Vent It a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute that content solely for the purpose of operating, promoting, and improving the Service (for example, showing your post in the feed or in a shared link preview). This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that persist in backups for a reasonable period, or content that has been shared or referenced by other users before deletion.

For Culture & Heritage submissions specifically: you confirm you have the right to share the story, name, or family history you are posting, including, where it concerns a living person other than yourself, that you have a reasonable basis to believe they would not object. Vent It may label content as “steward-reviewed” or similar, but such review is a good-faith community process, not a guarantee of factual accuracy.

5. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to post content or otherwise behave on the Service in a way that:

  • Harasses, threatens, bullies, or discloses private information about another person without consent (doxxing);
  • Is defamatory, or that you know to be false and likely to damage another person's reputation;
  • Promotes genocide ideology, ethnic division, or hate speech, including content prohibited under Rwandan law concerning the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi;
  • Is sexually exploitative of a minor in any way, or otherwise endangers a child — such content will be removed and reported to the appropriate authorities;
  • Infringes someone else's intellectual property or privacy rights;
  • Impersonates another person or misrepresents your affiliation with any person or entity;
  • Is spam, or is designed to manipulate votes, views, or rankings on the Service;
  • Attempts to circumvent rate limits, moderation, or account suspensions, including by creating multiple accounts.

6. Reporting and Moderation

You can report content or another user that you believe violates these Terms. We may, at our discretion, review, remove, or restrict access to content, and warn, suspend, or permanently ban accounts that violate these Terms, without prior notice where we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect the Service or other users. If your account is suspended or banned, you may appeal by contacting us at the email below.

7. Third-Party Sign-In

If you sign in using Google or another third-party provider, your use of that provider is also governed by its own terms and privacy policy. We only receive the profile information the provider shares with us based on your permission at sign-in.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. Vent It is a community platform, not a counseling, medical, legal, or crisis service. If you or someone you know is in crisis or experiencing thoughts of self-harm, please contact a local emergency service or a mental health professional — do not rely on the Service for that purpose. We do not endorse and are not responsible for User Content, which reflects the views of the individual poster, not Vent It.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vent It and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, or for the content, actions, or omissions of other users.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will present you with the updated Terms and ask you to accept them before you can continue using the Service. The “Effective date” above reflects the version currently in force.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Rwanda, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Rwanda, unless mandatory local law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your home jurisdiction.
